Columbia Drive UMC Children’s Coat Drive

Columbia Drive United Methodist Church is hosting a Coat Drive for children in local schools in the Decatur – DeKalb school district.

We are inviting you and your congregation to partner with us to provide warmth, hope, and love in our connected community.

We are accepting “gently used” or new coats. The sizes should range from Youth Small through Adult XXL (for our high school neighbors).

The Coat Drive runs through Monday, January 20, 2025.

We accept coats at the church daily from 10:00 a m until 4:00 pm If dropping off coats at the church presents a problem, online orders can be shipped directly to Columbia Dr UMC at 2067 Columbia Dr. Decatur 30032.

Please share this opportunity with your family, friends, and co-workers on social media, text, and email. The more coats we collect this week; the more students will experience warmth this winter.

On MLK Day, Monday, January 20, at 10 AM we will gather as a community to sort and prepare the coats for distribution. You are welcome to participate in this service- on project followed by a family friendly matinee movie in the fellowship hall.

Feel free to call the church office at 404 284-4151 for more information.

Blessings,

Rev. Angie Johnson

Mats for the Homeless Ministry

The mats on the altar were crocheted from plastic grocery bags. They serve as an extra layer of protection from the elements when homeless people sleep on the ground. The mat placed underneath a blanket helps keep the blanket dry while offering a little cushion from the cold, wet ground.

Several churches are represented in the mat-making project that meets at the Community Achievement Center on Flat Shoals Parkway in Decatur. Among the dedicated participants are several Clifton ladies, Eugenia Bell, Ella Hicks, Renee Howard, Vera Jones, Velma Larkins, and Jamie White. We thank God for their faithfulness to this ministry. We also pray God will watch over the homeless in our community, providing for their needs and keeping them safe. May we all share our resources of time, talent, and treasures so those lacking in their share may be showered with God’s abundant blessings.
